Looking for a last-minute Christmas gift? Why not introduce someone to singing?
Unlike a box of chocolates or a pair of socks, singing lasts a lifetime.
Here are three ways to introduce a friend or family member to singing:
- treat them to a place on an introductory or open-access singing workshop (some workshop leaders even offer gift vouchers)
- take them along to your choir when it has an open rehearsal for new recruits
- book a singing holiday or weekend together
Many people will resist (“I can’t sing”) or be very nervous, so it’s a good idea if you can arrange to go along with them to ease them in. Even if your own choir is full, you can accompany them to another choir’s recruitment session.
Don’t simply give them a gift voucher — they’ll find a way of opting out!
And who knows? You may end up with a new singing companion for life.
