Does getting older make it harder to learn songs?

Most of the singers who attend my workshops are in their 60s and 70s. Many of them having been coming to my singing events for years.

The other day, somebody asked if I’d noticed whether they struggled more with learning songs as they got older.

That day, I had some singers in my workshop who had been regularly attending for at least 17 years, so I was able to compare and contrast.

In all honesty, I haven’t noticed any reduction in their ability to learn or remember songs or harmonies. in fact, many of my singers have got better at it! Like all skills, regular practice improves your abilities.

Unless someone has a specific condition that affects their cognitive or physical abilities, there is no reason why age alone should have an impact on learning songs or singing harmony.

In fact, I believe that singing keeps you young!
